Bongani Njoli DJ/MC

Book Bongani Njoli

If you are searching for a well-known African DJ/MC for a private party, corporate function or a wedding Bongani Njoli ticks all the entertainment boxes. As a sought after master of ceremonies he is suave, charming and witty and as a professional event DJ he is renowned for getting any dancefloor pumping with the best mix of commercial house, kwaito and R&B party music hits.

Bongani is currently a presenter on Cape Town’s newest and fastest growing commercial radio station Magic828am and a former voice over artist for Etv, having entered the media industry in 1994 as the first black presenter on commercial radio in Cape Town. Bongani landed his very first radio slot as a second year student while studying for a Bachelor of Arts degree at the University of Cape Town, joining campus station UCT Radio in 1990. After graduating in 1992, work was difficult to find as a newly qualified teacher. Whilst working as a stock auditor for Nampak Tissue Cape in 1993, he auditioned and won a coveted slot at regional commercial radio station Good Hope FM.

From 1994 to 2002, Bongani filled a number of different time slots on Goodhope FM, from the weeknight graveyard shift to weekday lunchtime, before being offered a specialist show that focussed on urban lifestyle and music, with an emphasis on house music, R&B, hip hop and kwaito. Bongani is credited with introducing kwaito and house music onto commercial radio in Cape Town, helping to launch the careers of many South African musicians, songwriters, producers and DJs.

It was during this time that he launched his career as a voice over artist, specialising in advertising campaigns for both TV and radio. This is how he came to the attention of E-tv, landing the coveted role of “The voice of E" in 2000.

Bongani was part of a team that launched a retail radio station for Clicks Holdings, Discom Vibes, in 2004, where he was a presenter and music compiler until the station's closing in 2007. That same year, he joined Cape Town's Heart 104.9FM, presenting two music charts shows on weekends, including an 80's dance/club anthems music show. He left the station at the beginning of 2009 to focus on other business ventures.

Bongani is also a music producer, having worked on two SAMA nominated albums in 2000. He started a music production company, Ebomvu Entertainment in 1999, with acclaimed producer, Gabi le Roux of "Nkalakatha" fame. One of their music protégés went on to win a national pop music talent show, while others went on to successful careers in the music and media industry. Bongani continues to nurture young music talent in South Africa and currently has a number of exciting music projects in the pipeline for 2017.
